Symbiosis

2012

“Symbiosis” attempts to connect the visual and culturally familiar experience of a landscape, so that the viewer can identify with the pleasure of existing and also become aware of issues that imperil our fragile earth. By employing the human figure within these landscapes, a symbiotic relationship is formed. The landscapes chosen are protected and serve as a means to preserve the area’s ecology.

“Humility”, “Introspection” and “Paha” were shot in Lençóis Maranhenses National Park in Maranhão, Brazil. It is 155 hectare oasis, full of high dunes up to 40 feet tall and freshwater ponds, whose waters range from shades of green and blue.

“Speciation”, “Capsized”, “Obligate” were shot on the beaches of Play Grande, Costa Rica, home to Parque Nacional Marino Las Baulas, the nesting ground of the largest marine reptile, the Leatherback Turtle. The continued survival of the Leatherback Seaturtle depends upon the preservation of Costa Rica’s beaches including Playa Grande. For more information please visit seaturtles.org
